I met Jesper on a mission some time ago; he seemed perfectly pleasant and capable. [A sign of approval from Essek for sure.] The others though, I’m afraid I haven’t met them. However planning and listening are skills many people unfortunately lack.
I can ask Jesper. He would just need to see one of Caleb's books or a book of similar size and he can get them made. [There's a pause, and it's a good thing that Essek can't see his expression right now.] Wait you... talked to the Darkling?
[Though the Darkling wasn't here anymore, he wondered if Essek was told about how dangerous he was. If he spoke to Alina at all he might know.]
I think you'd like them. Kaz can be rough around the edges, but he looks out for people. [The caveat was that it was people he trusted and it was a very, very small circle of people that he was very lucky to be among.] Inej is really, really good at sneaking up on people - which makes it easy for her to evesdrop.

The grisha who could use shadows? I knew him as the General, but…yes. We were very interested in each other’s skills; if I’m honest, I think Caleb might have been jealous. [It was his turn for a small pause.] You don’t believe he had anything to do with his disappearance, do you?
[He cleared his throat a little.] Someday, you will have to introduce me. Perhaps we could have a gathering, your family and mine.
